Daily Updates

Day 1
Today was amazing! The 1st and 2nd grade class is just wonderful! The kids are great. We started the day off by telling everyone one thing we liked about school and one way we help those around us in school, it was a ton of fun. The kids worked on their reading and writing, there's a couple kids whom are reading high school level books, its very impressive.  The kids went to recess and then lunch then we went to Still Water Music and the kids practiced the songs they are performing on March 20th, they are playing instruments as well and it is phenomenal! I am so excited to see what else is in store. This was the start to an amazing internship!
Day 2
Today was another awesome day! Today we started the day off by me reading a book the kids. After the book Mrs. Driver had the kids get their reading a phonics stuff out and the kids worked on that and Rachael Sands topped by and said hello and I was happy to see her. I helped one of the little boys with the activity in his phonics book. After that the kids went to recess and Mrs. Driver and I were trying to figure out how we wanted to have the kids glue the body parts on for their skeletons  We went to lunch and I ate with some little girls who demanded I ate with them. Today was a great day!
Day 3
Today I got the day off because the kids had an all day ski day at Purgatory and Wolf Creek. So today I brainstormed different ways I could go about my project and was thinking of new ideas.
Day 4
Today we started out class by me reading a book to the class. I had the kids get their journals and we read a bible story and as I was reading I had them either write or draw a picture of what they were hearing me say. After we were done reading we went around and the kids shared what they wrote or drew. After the kids went and had PE with another teacher. While kids were at PE Mrs. Driver was assesing kids one at a time on their spelling and pronunciation of words. Mrs. Driver was also suppose to time them on their reading but the batterys weren't working so I went and grabbed some batterys for her. When I got back I arranged for the kids and Mrs. Driver and I to go to city market tomoorow for part of my project. I talked to the transit and got a deal. Because we have a school group the kids are 25 cents and teachers are free. After we read a book and then the kids did rocket math. Their FAVORITE thing to do!
Day 5
Today we got to class and everyone worked on a little reading and spelling paper. After we went to chapel and we sang some songs and Pastor Rod came up and shared a message. We went back to the clasroom after chapel and we sat down in a circle I got a food pyramid to show the kids and I talked to them about the importance of eating healthy and the difference between parishable foods and non-perishable foods. After that we went outside and we waited for trolly (while it was snowing and freezing with 16 kids) we got on the trolly and we went on our fieldtrip to City Market. When we got to City Market  we shopped for non-parishable foods for the homeless shelter. When we were done we went and checked out, the kids helped Mrs. Driver and I put everything by the scanner. The kids had fun talking with the cashier, we got some crazy looks because of all the kids. I was VERY impressed by the 1st and 2nd graders they were all on their very best behaviors and used their inside voices didn't get out of control once they said excuse me and made sure they moved out of the way for other shoppers. They did very well. We got back on the trolly, came back to the school and the 1st graders went with Mrs. Driver to work on math and the 2nd graders stayed in the classroom with me to price all the items we bought so we can play store next week. Then we watched a movie up until it was time to go home!
Day 6
Today I was really sick, I came in for a little bit in the morning and then I ended up having to go home. While I was here Mrs. Driver did assesments because after every trimester the kids have to be tested on how far they have come. I seperated papers I had graded and then put them in each of the kids' portfolios so that they had longer to test and so Mrs. Driver could finish their spelling show off.
Day 7
Today we started by Mrs. Driver talking to the kids and them cleaning out their desks and putting more papers into their portfolios. I went to the copy room and made copy's of the kids' reading journals and then I folded and stapled all of them. Then Mrs. Driver had Mrs. Posey and I take the kids and finish putting together their digestive sytems on their skeltons while Mrs. Driver took students one by one for assesments. Mrs. Driver has different things she asses kids on, their not all assesing on the same thing. She makes work sheets and tests for the kids based on where their at. Some kids are more advanced and need harder things to do where as some are only at the first or second grade level where they are supposed to be. Some kids are also advanced in different areas and some are advanced in every area. All these kids are amazingly smart and lovely amazing kids! After 1st recess the kids came  and Mrs. Driver continued assesing and I took the kids 2 by 2, to help them finish their digestive system. After we got done the kids went to lunch and then recess then they came back in and we had our wilderness time where we go outside and do activities to get some fresh air.
Day 8
Today we started by Mrs. Driver reading a bible story the kids and I stuffed their envolopes with money to play store. I put one five, four ones, and change in each of their envelopes to make ten dollars. After I finished up putting together a few more faces for the kids. human bodys and while I was doing that the kids had free writing, they wrote storys, incredible storys! When we were done the kids went to recess and I conducted my mentor interview with Mrs. Driver. The kids came back and we did an activity using pintrest and the kids each got a poster board and they made a tree with paint using the bottom of soda bottles as the leaves. The creations were beautiful! After we went to lunch and then recess. Then the Spanish teacher came to work with the kids and I went with Mrs. Driver to the kindergardners room to work on an art project with them. It was a pretty fun and active day.
Day 9
Today I came in early so that I could clean up the room the kindergardeners did their project in so I could take the pictures to Mrs. Oles and clean up the table and take our tools back to the classroom. Today we started off the day by the kids doing their jobs, they all have different jobs such as lights, cleaning the board, watering the classroom plants and feeding the lizards. After that the kids sat down for 15 minutes and all read different human body books and they all had to go up in the front of the classroom and share something new that the class didn't already know. Halfway through I tried hunting down a coffe cup for some coffee but I was unsucsessful in my search.... I came back to the classroom and the kids continued to share new things they learned and Mrs. Driver continued taking kids one at a time for assesments and I finished all of the human body posters! Mrs. Posey came and the kids worked either read, worked in their phonics books or did writing. Then they went to recess and had P.E. The kids came back from P.E. and they continued their writing assesment from yesterday and then we played store and I took a video and then we went to lunch and then they had recess and we came back and played store again.
Day 10
Today we started by going straight to chapel, we sang some songs, the 8th graders did a skit and talked about the importance of keeping the enviorment clean. The Molly Black and her mentor came and they talked about Sonlight summer camp, the kids were very interested in it! We went into the big room where we have lunch to prepare lunch for the whole school but they weren't quite ready, so I shared some bear stories that have happened to me and then a couple kids also shared some bear stories. Then we came back to the classroom and the kids worked on their writing assesments and then we went back to the big room to prepare lunch for the school! We came back to the classroom and discussed what else we needed to do in preparing lunch and serving it and then I read a book to them while we waited. For lunch we made noodless and meatless lasagna. For desert we had rootbeer floats, it was yummy! After lunch the kids had recess and then they had all school games. When we came back in we played store! It was a day full of fun adventures!

Day 11
Mrs. Driver began the day by talking a little bit about different things with the kids. When she was done she had me read a bible story to the kids and then we discussed why Jesus died on the cross for us and how much he loves us.After I was done Mrs. Driver read a book  to the kids that was about a classroom whenever the their teacher read a book to them all the characters came out of the book. When the story was over the charechters went back into the book. One day the teacher was running late and the kids read the book because the principal got scared when the people were jumping out of the book and all the animals and people were running around the school because the kids were reading different stories. After that the kids continued their writing assesments, they have today and tomorrow left to finish. Then the kids had recess and came back and they started their math assesment and we had lunch. When lunch was over the kids came back and we got on the bus to go to Stillwater. They're practicing for the last time until their performance on Wednesday.

Day 12
Today the kids started by doing handwriting and reading on their own. Then they were being assesed again on math. We had lunch and after lunch the kids had their wilderness day. For a little bit I was finishing up decorating while they were outside and when I finished, I joined them. We went outside to the garden and the kids drew the garden out on a piece of paper then we dug in the dirt looking for worms to put in the vegetebale beds. The kids had tons of fun playing with the worms and all kinds of gross bugs! Mrs. Driver had to go to a meeting so I waited for parents to get the kids

Day 13
Today we started by doing math assesments. After the kids finished some problems we moved on to free writing a reading. Then I read Run Away Ralph to them  for about a half hour. When we were done the kids went to lunch. I ate inside with some girls I teach in Sunday School. The kids came back in and they had Spanish class and Mrs. Driver went in the big room and  taught art with  the kinders and we made beautiful trees. We came back to the classroom and then did the project with the first and second graders. When a couple of them were done I did my video with the kids, it was the store video.

Day 14
The saddest day yet... I came in and I suprised Mrs. Driver and the kids with a picture of Mrs. Driver and I framed and a picture of the class and I framed. I wrote notes to them on the back of the pictures that they are going to read tomorrow. I also brought some cup cakes! After we played with blocks for a little while then we read a book and Mrs. Driver got out math assesments again. When they were done with that we did free writing and reading and a couple of kids did their writing while I read to them. When we were done we all met on the carpet and I read the Grouchy Lady Bug to them and we worked on telling time. The kids suprised me with some picturesz they made for me, that was very special. When we finished we went to lunch and came back in and the rest opf the day was a party so we could spend time together and hangout and say our goodbyes.  Leaving here was the hardest thing to do... I love them all.
